On September 10, South Elgin is hosting its annual Scandinavian Day Festival at Vasa Park.
Fun for all ages, the festival states that it’s dedicated to the preservation and celebration of the five Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
Nordic Beer Tasting
Back by popular demand, the Nordic beer tasting is curated by Certified Cicerone Jenny Pfafflin. The afternoon will feature three sessions that offer presentations on beer and brewing in Scandinavia, a tasting of five Nordic beers, and a special festival tasting glass. An additional ticket is required for this event.
A variety of food vendors will serve delicious, authentic foods and desserts. Try the lingonberry saft, fried herring, and Kringle (a Nordic type of pretzel).
Take a stroll along the Fox River where you can chat with costumed interpreters such as Vikings to learn about a different era.
Artists who will take to the main stage include:
Jaerv – Returning to the festival is Jaerv, a Swedish quintet that’s known for playing lively and heartfelt folk music with pop and jazz influences. They play around the world and have enjoyed several successful American tours.
Gangspil – Gangspil hails from Denmark, and won the Tradition Award at the Danish Music Awards in 2016. The group features the country’s leading folk musicians, Sonnich Lydom and Kristian Bugge, who take audiences on a musical tour around their homeland.
