When winter storms hit, curling up on the couch is incredibly appealing. For pet owners, however, couch time doesn’t last for long. Storms eventually fade, and Fido is soon ready for a walk. Take heart! Exercise is a great way to beat the winter blues and improve your well-being. So, when the snow stops, head outside with your pooch, and get a great cardiovascular workout together. Below, we reveal where you can enjoy the outdoors with your dog in Algonquin, Illinois.
Fox River Trail
Fox River Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. The 44-mile trail was actually built across the grounds of three former railroads. You’ll love the fact that you can take advantage of the trail all year long!
The trail system welcomes bikers, inline skaters, walkers, runners, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers. It’s also wheelchair accessible. You and your dog can expect to see a variety of wildlife here, including a diverse population of bald eagles, woodpeckers, and herons. You can even register online to view more than 30,000 miles of detailed trail maps. The maps will show parking areas, trail-heads, restrooms, drinking fountains, and endpoints. By registering, you can also add reviews, photos, and saved trails to your profile.
Lake in the Hills Bark Park
Lake in the Hills Bark Park is a 10-acre park for dogs and their owners. It welcomes visitors throughout the year and is a great place for dogs and pet owners to socialize. This park has an extensive fenced-in running area for dogs. What’s more, you don’t have to leash Fido here. So, go ahead and enjoy some fantastic off-leash fun together. Check out the dog agility equipment or “dog adjustment” area (for those new to the park). The park also provides on-site parking, running water, and solar lighting. The latter promotes visibility and added security.
To become a member of the park, you’ll have to fill out a registration form, show proof of Fido’s vaccinations, and provide verification of your residency. Once you become a member, you and your pet can visit the park as many times as you like.
As can be seen, you can enjoy the outdoors with your dog in Algonquin, Illinois, with minimal effort. Fido will especially enjoy running free at Lake in the Hills Bark Park.
